The Seaside News is a free local magazine with a distribution of 27,000 copies each month, delivered door-to-door throughout, Porthcawl, Bridgend and surrounding areas – the biggest of its kind in Wales.
For four years I acted as Art Director for the Seaside News – a task that required me to be diligent and detail-oriented with strong interpersonal and organisational skills. Using my ability to multitask a variety of challenges and responsibilities, I was recognised in the area for my commitment to the project and to clients, for my design skills and for my professionalism.
In my role there, I was responsible for the overall visual appearance of an the magazine, many of the advertisements contained therein, and supporting materials (flyers, price lists, business cards and stationery, regular emailers and other promotional items, the website, etc.). I formulated layout design, conferring with the editor and advertisers to discuss requirements, working tightly within budget and scheduling requirements.
I produced the design for the site, which was constructed by South Wales Web Solutions. I was also in charge of maintaining and updating the homepage imagery, the What’s On listings and uploading of the magazine every month for readers to view online.
We also set up a Local Business Directory to offer local businesses a low cost web presence.
